ASA Insurance Discusses Recent Study on the Cause Behind Fatal Car Crashes in Utah

ASA Insurance provides competitive car insurance rates in the Salt Lake City area.

A recent study was conducted by the Auto Insurance Center from data that was compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Drivers who are aware of high-risk situations may be more likely to take the necessary precautions to prevent an accident.”

— Creed Anderson

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, UNITED STATES, July 31, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — A recent study was conducted by the Auto Insurance Center from data that was compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It listed the causes behind fatal car accidents throughout the United States from 2009 to 2013. ASA insurance, provider of vehicle insurance in Salt Lake City, UT, says this report contains valuable information for drivers in Utah because it alerts them to potential issues before they occur.

According to the report, the top reason for fatal car accidents in Utah was failure to keep in the proper lane. This reason was the main issue for a majority of states throughout the country. However, Utah was not listed among the top five states most affected by this issue. Wyoming was number one with Mississippi, Tennessee, Vermont and Idaho rounding out the list. The information was gathered from NHTSA data and the number of crashes in each state for each type of issue was divided by the population of the state to create an accurate comparison. Utah fared well when compared to other states for drunk driving accidents. It is listed as the fourth state with the least number of drunk driving crashes. Utah comes in right behind Washington DC, New York and Massachusetts. The differences between the other states and Utah is they have more urban areas with public transportation. Generally, issues with drunk driving are more prevalent in rural areas where a lack of public transportation increases the risk of people driving drunk. However, Utah is the exception to this rule due to its strict drunk driving laws and the high Mormon population.

The report also noted that for Utah snow causes more accidents than rain. It also results in more accidents than fog. Crosswinds also account for car accidents in Utah, which is among a handful of states to have this issue, most of which are in the southwest. Speeding is another factor in fatal car crashes, and Utah ranked neither highest nor lowest in this category. It did rank well below its bordering state of Wyoming which was listed for second highest.

The study accounts for driver and passenger fatalities as well as pedestrian deaths. The data is important because it lets insurance carriers know what actions and situations cause the highest-risk for drivers. It is also important for drivers to help them become more aware of potential accident situations.

“Drivers who are aware of high-risk situations may be more likely to take the necessary precautions to prevent an accident,” explains Creed Anderson of ASA Insurance. “For instance, drivers in Utah should learn how to drive in the snow and when to stay home because it’s a major issue in the state.”

As drivers become more aware of risks for car accidents, they can alter their behaviors to help prevent these issues which could result in death and injury as well as an increase in insurance rates for multiple claims filed.

John Smith Insurance Discusses the Risks for Dog Owners with Home Insurance in Colorado Springs

John Smith works for John Smith Insurance Agency which provides car insurance in Colorado Springs. Affordable rates and superior service for all home, auto and business/commercial insurance needs.

Dog owners are a higher risk for agencies that provide home insurance in Colorado Springs.

When buying home insurance in Colorado Springs, think about how much one incident can cost. You don’t want to end up selling your home or liquidating your retirement fund to pay for the medical bills.”

— John Smith

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, UNITED STATES, July 31, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Dog owners are a higher risk for agencies that provide house insurance in Colorado Springs. They may bite a person even if they are not known to be dangerous or a guard dog. You need to understand these risks and be prepared if you plan to get a four-legged friend to add to your family. John Smith Insurance discusses those risks to help homeowners understand what they need to do.

John Smith Insurance recommends doing plenty of research before getting a dog. Compare breeds and know what kind of behavior to expect. If the person chooses to get a dog from the pound or a rescue, they need to ask a veterinarian or another expert about breeding to ensure the animal fits their needs. They should also pay attention to behavior signals for signs of aggression. It is also a good idea to visit the dog a few times and see how it reacts to children and other animals. For those who prefer to get a pup, they can attend obedience classes to teach the dog how to listen to commands. If they get an older dog, they will need to give it time to adjust to a new home and routine. It may be best to limit contact with visitors until the dog feels safe.

The dog owner will need to carry enough home insurance to protect them from a claim if the dog should bite someone. Even the best behaved dogs can cause an accident if they are afraid or feel challenged. The owner should always have them on a leash when they go for a walk. They should shorten the leash when they meet or pass someone, especially if the other person has a dog as well. The property should have a fence or a kennel to keep the dog away from visitors, including mail carriers, utility workers and delivery drivers.

When considering the amount of liability insurance a homeowner should carry, it is important to understand the costs involved with this type of incident. A minor dog bite might only require some antibiotics for infection and possibly stitches. A major attack can include emergency treatment, multiple surgeries, therapy and reconstruction. This can run into thousands of dollars. Once the home insurance limits have been reached, the other expenses are the responsibility of the homeowner.

“We always advise people to think about worst case scenario in a claim,” says John Smith. “When buying home insurance in Colorado Springs, think about how much one incident can cost. You don’t want to end up selling your home or liquidating your retirement fund to pay for the medical bills.” Smith recommends purchasing a policy with enough coverage to pay for a major incident. If a person has quite a few assets, they may even need an umbrella policy to cover extra expenses or a lawsuit. Owning a dog can be fun and rewarding, but a person must be prepared for injuries that can result.

ASA Insurance Discusses the Rise in Traffic Fatalities Nationally

According to the National Safety Council, 40,200 people died in traffic accidents in 2016.

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, UNITED STATES, July 30, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — According to the National Safety Council, 40,200 people died in traffic accidents in 2016. This was a six percent increase from 2015, which was up by seven percent from 2014. That makes a total of 13 percent more traffic fatalities in two years, which is the most significant jump seen in over 50 years. ASA insurance wants drivers to be aware of the increased risk of a serious accident even before they get behind the wheel.

There are several views as to why the increase in car fatalities has occurred. Statistics show that about one-third of accidents with a fatality involve an impaired driver or one who has been using drugs or alcohol. Around half the fatalities include a person who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Creed Anderson of ASA Insurance says that speeding adds to the risk. “Speed limits continue to be increased along major highways, which means more danger of serious and deadly car crashes when an accident occurs.”

Car insurance in Salt Lake City and throughout Utah is often more expensive for drivers who have been in an accident. If the accident involves a fatality, it can lead to even more serious consequences. The driver could face criminal charges of negligence or vehicular homicide if they are found at fault in a traffic fatality. They may be required to do mandatory jail time as well as paying a fine and having their license revoked.

Anderson wants drivers to be aware of the risk for a traffic-related death even when the driver is sober and obeying the traffic laws. Distracted driving has become a major problem with many people using smartphones while driving. People who are sleep-deprived are at a greater risk for an accident as well. “Don’t get behind the wheel if you don’t feel alert and able to concentrate,” Anderson recommends. He goes on to say that a person should determine whether they are able to drive safely before they get in the car. If they don’t feel like they can make quick decisions and handle fast-moving traffic in places like Salt Lake City, they should get another driver or wait to drive to their destination.

Another suggestion from Anderson for drivers is to look at buying cars with more safety technology. Features like blind spot assist, lane departure warning and forward collision warning are designed to prevent accidents and lessen injuries if one occurs. These systems can help drivers be more aware of what is going on around them and alert them to potential dangers. He also suggests that people pay more attention to the biggest dangers in accidents. “Don’t drive if you’ve been drinking, but also think about any prescription medications you may be taking,” Anderson advises. Drivers can check with their doctor if they are on a pain medication or other drug that could hinder their ability to drive and make decisions. He also recommends drivers slow down and make sure everyone is wearing a seatbelt. Not only do these actions help prevent the rise in car insurance rates that comes from at-fault accidents, it could save a life.

McKinney Financial & Insurance Services Discusses Need for More Car Insurance

Many people choose to buy car insurance based on the minimum amount of coverage required by Wisconsin state law.

If you don’t have $100,000 sitting around in your bank account to give away for a situation like this, you need more coverage.”

— Robert McKinney

OCONOMOWOC, WI, UNITED STATES, July 30, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Many people choose to buy car insurance based on the minimum amount of coverage required by Wisconsin state law. They think they are covered adequately, but Robert McKinney of McKinney Financial & Insurance Services says they may not have enough coverage to protect them if a major accident occurs.

In Wisconsin, drivers must maintain at least $25,000 liability per person or $50,000 per incident and $10,000 for property damage. Additionally, they must have $25,000 per person and $50,000 per incident for uninsured and underinsured motorists. McKinney maintains that this amount of coverage may not be enough for the average driver. He recommends that drivers in Oconomowoc and Watertown as well as other areas his company services consider increasing their coverage over what is required by law.

“An accident can easily cost a person more than $50,000 if the injuries are severe,” McKinney explains. “Consider the cost of medical care with multiple surgeries, long-term rehab and even permanent damage.” He estimates that one accident with serious injuries to multiple people could cost well over $100,000. McKinney explains that the insurance company only pays up to the maximum amount of the policy, but the driver is responsible for the rest.

“If you don’t have $100,000 sitting around in your bank account to give away for a situation like this, you need more coverage,” he says. McKinney explains that cost shouldn’t be the only factor when deciding how much coverage is necessary for auto insurance in Wisconsin. A person who drives a lot for work or other activities is at a higher risk for an accident than someone who only commutes five minutes. Drivers who spend a lot of time on major highways with maximum speed limits over 45MPH may also need more coverage.

“An accident that occurs at 50 miles per hour is going to result in more serious injuries than one that occurs at 25MPH.” McKinney says it is important to look at a person’s lifestyle and driving record to help them determine how much insurance they need. He recommends sitting down with an agent and working together to come up with policy limits that are affordable and protect the driver in a future claim. In a claim where someone dies, he says the damages could be several hundred thousand dollars. In those cases, a person might need an umbrella policy that takes over once the limits of the car insurance policy have been reached. Many people go online to get quotes for the cheapest car insurance when they are looking for a new policy. However, McKinney recommends a more personalized approach to ensure the person is getting the right amount of coverage for their unique situation. He says it does not take long to get a quote from an insurer over the phone where they can provide more information about what they need.

McKinney Financial & Insurance Services provides car insurance in Watertown, Oconomowoc, Waukesha and Ixonia as well as surrounding communities.

John Smith Insurance Discusses Need for More Insurance After School Bus Crash

John Smith works for John Smith Insurance Agency which provides auto insurance in Colorado Springs. Affordable rates and superior service for all home, auto and business/commercial insurance needs.

A crash between a pickup and school bus in Hudson, Colorado earlier in July resulted in injuries for 34 of the 35 students and teachers who were on board.

If a person doesn’t carry enough coverage to pay for the damages through the policy, they may have to pay them out of pocket.”

— John Smith

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, UNITED STATES, July 30, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — A crash between a pickup and school bus in Hudson, Colorado earlier in July resulted in injuries for 34 of the 35 students and teachers who were on board. The driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into the bus on a rural road near the town. John Smith Insurance says this is an example of why people must think about more than cost of premiums when buying auto insurance.

The accident happened when the truck drifted into the wrong lane. The bus left the road and rolled over before stopping. The truck drove into a corn field. The driver was issued a summons for careless driving, but drugs an alcohol were not suspected to be part of the accident. The charge is a misdemeanor and the pickup truck driver will need to appear in court. None of the injuries were fatal or life-threatening to the students or teachers. However, John Smith Insurance, a provider of car insurance in Colorado Springs, says this is a prime example of why drivers should consider more than just cost when deciding on their auto insurance needs.

“One accident can change your life,” John Smith explains. “And it can happen in the blink of an eye.” He explains that insurance policies are designed to pay in these situations, but they have limits. If a person doesn’t carry enough coverage to pay for the damages through the policy, they may have to pay them out of pocket. As Smith explains, a lot of people buy the state minimum liability coverage for car insurance in Colorado Springs. The minimum is $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident. In a crash with major multiple injuries, the claim can easily exceed this amount through surgeries, emergency care, physical therapy and other medical expenses. Even in a two-car crash, the costs can be well over the required coverage amounts. When the other vehicle is a bus or other multi-passenger vehicle, the damages can add up significantly.

Smith recommends drivers talk to their insurance providers to determine the right amount of coverage for their situations. They may need to increase their policy to a higher amount. Another option is to purchase an umbrella policy. Umbrella insurance is a policy which takes over when the limits have been reached on a car insurance or home insurance policy. These limits often go to one million dollars or even more. It protects anyone with a large number of assets, but it can be valuable even for those who are not wealthy.

“People often don’t realize they are responsible for any damages over what the insurance provider pays,” Smith says. “Once they understand this, they start looking at insurance in a different way.” The cost of premiums changes very little when coverage is increased compared to the amount of coverage provided. As Smith says, it only takes one accident like the school bus incident to remind drivers of the dangers of not having enough auto insurance.
